Departmental & Disciplinary Awards recognize sub-institutional academic units, such as departments, schools, colleges, or interdisciplinary programs, within a larger institution. These awards focus on how a specific academic unit is addressing equal access to full participation in STEMM within its own teaching, research, or training environment. Units can choose to explore administrators, faculty, staff, postdocs, and/or students depending on need and context.

To account for the complexity of academic subunits within an institution, we have adopted the title “Departmental & Disciplinary” for these awards, though you may see one or the other represented in graphics or logos. A dedicated Disciplinary Award in Physics & Astronomy is available from the American Association of Physics Teachers through the Physics & Astronomy SEA Change Committee (PASCC), an entity governed by eleven partnering disciplinary societies.
