SEA Change has evolved to meet the needs of the U.S. higher education sector. Institutions and smaller academic units have been supported in different ways since 2016 as they strive for SEA Change Awards recognizing commitment to systemic change and evidence-driven action to support inclusivity for excellence in STEMM.
What happened to SEA Change Membership?
Launching in 2020, the SEA Change Membership program was created to provide intensive support for colleges and universities. Members received access to programming, tools, communities of practice, and pre-paid seats to courses and training. Membership was required to apply for, receive, and retain Awards for the duration of their five-year lifespan, and was only available to whole institutions or biomedical endeavors.
To enhance affordability and allow for greater customization based on context and need, SEA Change shifted from a membership-based model to a more focused recognition model centered exclusively on awards. An at-cost application fee helps cover the administration of peer review process, and consultations with AAAS staff are available for a service fee.
The work of supporting institutional change now appears through the design of the award frameworks, guidance to applicants, and related resources rather than through a formal membership structure.
